Leyden Jar - First Capacitor

The Leyden jar is one of the first charge-storage devices (storage of electrical charge, the first capacitor) (Pieter van Musschenbrok, in 1745).

Pieter van Musschenbrok demonstrated electrical shock and the power of this new form of energy.

The true beginnings of the electrical era lie with the efforts of Pieter van Musschenbrok and Benjamin Franklin.

Benjamin Franklin used the Leyden jar some 7 years later to establish that lightning is simply an electrical discharge and defined the two types of charge as positive and negative.
